The ‘July Memory Museum’ is expected to open in the first week of November, with construction expected to be completed by October, according to museum authorities. The museum will showcase evidence and images of Sheikh Hasina’s 16-year rule, including the 1975 Pilkhana massacre, enforced disappearances, the Ayenagar incident, the Shapla Square killings, and electoral fraud.
On Saturday afternoon, the museum authorities informed Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus about the progress in a meeting at the state guesthouse Jamuna. Curator Tanzim Wahab stated that the museum’s work is being coordinated with the International Crimes Tribunal and the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances.
The museum will have an exhibition center displaying documentary images of the July uprising and Sheikh Hasina’s 16-year rule. Audio recordings and other documents related to enforced disappearances and killings will also be showcased.
Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said the museum aims to raise public awareness and resistance against tyranny. Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostafa Sarwar Faruqi added that the museum will vividly present the history of Sheikh Hasina’s governance.
Researchers and officials involved in the project hope that visitors will experience the mass uprising at Ganabhaban on August 5 and gain a real understanding of the history of authoritarian rule.
