A major reshuffle is set to take place in the interim government’s Advisory Council. Within the next month, several advisers—including two student representatives—will be removed from their current posts, while a number of new faces will be brought in.
According to government sources, the reshuffle is being carried out for three reasons: to accelerate ministerial activities ahead of the national elections, to protect the image of certain advisers who have become controversial, and to ease workload pressures by bringing in additional members. The interim government reportedly aims to step down with a “clean image” before the 2026 national elections.
At present, 22 advisers oversee 41 ministries. Some of them are handling as many as three ministries at once. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus alone is in charge of five ministries and divisions, including the Cabinet Division, Defense Ministry, Armed Forces Division, Public Administration, and the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
Meanwhile, the number of special assistants, envoys, and high representatives holding the rank of adviser is also set to increase. Several deputy minister–ranked special assistants will see their portfolios reshuffled. Some advisers and special assistants will be shifted from large ministries to smaller ones, while others currently in charge of smaller ministries will be given larger responsibilities.
Sources indicate that the reshuffle will also bring surprises, as a few new faces—some from within the current administration and others from outside the government—are expected to be added to the Advisory Council.
