A tragic incident occurred during the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) election as an assistant professor of the Fine Arts Department, Jannatul Ferdous, passed away while on election duty.
On Friday morning, she was serving as the polling officer at Pritilata Hall when she suddenly fell ill. She was immediately taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where doctors declared her dead.
Colleagues said that after a full day of voting on Thursday, the ballot counting began late at night in the Senate building. Jannatul Ferdous reported for duty in the morning but collapsed shortly afterward and was rushed to the hospital.
Associate Professor of the History Department, Nasima Akhter, said, “Jannatul arrived around 8 am for ballot counting. Within a short while, she lost consciousness.” Professor Sultana Akhter from the same department added that she joined duty after being called in, but soon fell seriously ill.
Dr. Shawon from the emergency department of Enam Medical College Hospital confirmed, “She was brought in around 9 am in an unresponsive state. Her husband and fellow teachers were with her at the time.”
The sudden death of Jannatul Ferdous has cast a shadow of grief across the university campus.
