The vote counting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) and hall union elections is still underway. According to the Election Commission sources on Friday (September 12) morning, counting has been completed in 12 residential halls, while the process is ongoing in the remaining 9 halls. Once all hall votes are counted, the central union ballots will be tallied.
An election commission member said that votes are being counted simultaneously at two tables. However, in the early morning hours, counting was briefly halted in some halls due to the absence of polling agents. Later, counting resumed in the halls where agents were present.
Earlier on Thursday, voting took place across 21 residential halls from 9 AM to 5 PM. Afterward, ballot boxes were brought to the Senate Building, where counting began around 10 PM in the presence of polling agents—mostly representatives of hall union candidates.
Election Commission member Professor K. Lutful Elahi stated that only the hall union ballots are being counted at present. The central union count is unlikely to begin before the Friday Jummah prayers, and the overall results may be announced in the afternoon.
He added, “Teachers and officials were engaged in conducting the polling throughout the day in the halls. Now they are again on duty at the Senate Building for the counting process. Naturally, they are exhausted, which is why the counting is moving a bit slowly.”
