Kolimullah, the former Vice-Chancellor of Rokeya University, who was arrested from Mohammadpur, Dhaka, has been sent to jail after completing his remand period.
On Thursday, Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Court, Md. Sabbir Foyez, rejected his bail petition and ordered him to be detained in jail. Kolimullah was arrested by the DB on August 7 from his residence in Mohammadpur, and his bail petition was dismissed the same day. On August 27, the court granted him a five-day remand.
After the remand period ended, the case investigation officer, Deputy Director Minhaj Bin Islam of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), requested the court to keep him in custody. Kolimullah’s lawyer, Mohsin Reza, filed for bail, but ACC prosecutor Delwar Zahan Rum opposed it.
Kolimullah and four others have been accused of embezzling funds allocated for development projects at Rokeya University. The other accused are former Pro-Vice Chancellor and Project Director A. K. M. Nur-un-Nobi, former Executive Engineer and Tender Evaluation Committee Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam, contractor Md. A. Salam Bacchu, and M. M. Habibur Rahman.
