Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has announced that ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections, 2,000 new Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) will be recruited, while another 2,000 officers will be promoted.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday (September 3), the IGP said a total of 4,000 ASIs will be added to the force — half through promotion and the other half through direct recruitment.
He further mentioned that discussions were held with the Ministry of Public Administration regarding the matter. Some necessary amendments to the regulations have been approved, making the recruitment process smoother.
When asked if this recruitment is directly linked to the upcoming election, the IGP responded, “Yes, the Chief Adviser recently gave policy approval for several force recruitments. We are working accordingly based on that approval.
