Dhaka: In the recently concluded month of August, 502 people lost their lives in road accidents across the country. According to a report by the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association, a total of 497 road accidents occurred nationwide, leaving 1,232 people injured.
The report further states that on railways, 34 accidents claimed 34 lives and injured 7 people. On waterways, 21 accidents resulted in 27 deaths, 22 injuries, and 13 people reported missing. In total, across roads, railways, and waterways, 552 accidents led to 563 deaths and 1,261 injuries in August.
Among these, motorcycle accidents were the highest: 165 accidents caused 176 deaths and 144 injuries, accounting for 33.19% of total accidents, 35.05% of deaths, and 11.68% of injuries.
The highest number of road accidents occurred in the Dhaka division, with 132 accidents resulting in 128 deaths and 333 injuries. The fewest accidents were reported in the Barishal division, with 15 accidents causing 14 deaths and 22 injuries.
