Gaza has once again turned into a valley of death. In relentless Israeli bombardment, 77 Palestinians were killed in a single day. At least 47 of them died inside Gaza City alone, including 11 people who were standing in line to collect bread.
Terrified families are fleeing the city with only a few belongings—some on trucks, some on donkey carts—seeking safety that seems nowhere to be found. Many have started pitching makeshift tents under the open sky near the Nuseirat refugee camp in Deir al-Balah.
Displaced Palestinian Mohammad Marouf lamented:
“We are lying on the streets, living worse than dogs.”
Another displaced man, Mohammad Abu Warda, added:
“We are leaving Jabalia for western Gaza, but we don’t know where to stop. Nowhere is safe; the Israelis are attacking everywhere.”
The UN refugee agency UNRWA has warned that Israel’s ongoing operation is aimed at capturing Gaza City and displacing nearly one million people. Israel has already declared the city a “battlefield” and confirmed the start of its “initial phase of occupation.”
