Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital on Tuesday (August 26) afternoon as part of the “Blockade of Engineers” program. The protest began around 3:30 PM, halting traffic on the key road.
According to students, former BUET student engineer Roknuzzaman Rokon was threatened with murder at the NESCO office on Monday (August 25). In response, a nationwide program was announced.
Their demands include—legal action against the perpetrators, implementation of the three-point agenda of the Engineers’ Rights Movement, and the formation of an Engineering Sector Reform Commission.
Students from various universities with engineering faculties were called to join the protest. Meanwhile, Abrar Fahad’s younger brother, Abrar Faiyaz, expressed solidarity through social media, urging students to participate in the blockade.
