At least 86 Palestinians have been killed in continued Israeli strikes on Gaza, while 492 others were injured, according to reports.
The information was confirmed on Tuesday (August 26) by Turkey-based news agency Anadolu.
According to the report, during the 24 hours from Sunday evening, heavy casualties occurred due to airstrikes and shelling. Among the dead, 58 were killed in bombings, while 28 others were shot dead while collecting food.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health stated that the actual number of casualties could be much higher. Many people remain trapped under the rubble, but rescue operations are being hampered by a lack of sufficient equipment and manpower.
Background since October 7
On October 7, 2023, Palestinian resistance group Hamas launched a surprise attack, after which Israel began its ongoing military operations in Gaza. That attack left around 1,200 people dead in Israel and 251 taken hostage.
Since then, continuous Israeli operations have killed at least 62,700 Palestinians in Gaza and injured more than 158,000 others.
