Cox’s Bazar: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that after the government-backed massacre and the student–public uprising, the country is now stable enough and prepared for the upcoming election. He stated that the national election has been scheduled for the first half of February 2026, through which the interim government will hand over power to an elected administration.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Rohingya Stakeholders’ Dialogue in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, Yunus said, “We are now at a crucial moment in our political history. A year ago, we went through a terrible massacre, but the student-led uprising made it possible to free the nation from fascist rule.”
To push for a stronger international role in resolving the Rohingya crisis, a three-day international dialogue has begun in Cox’s Bazar. At the opening session, Professor Yunus presented a seven-point proposal for sustainable solutions to the Rohingya issue.
The proposals include— creating a realistic roadmap for the safe, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas; ensuring continued support from donors; urging Myanmar authorities and the Arakan Army to guarantee safety and livelihoods; initiating constructive dialogue and restoring rights; active involvement of ASEAN and the global community; taking a firm stance against genocide; and expediting accountability through international courts.
