BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that no change is possible through isolated patchwork. He stated that the Awami League has destroyed the country in the last 15 years, and overnight solutions are not possible. Elected representatives should at least ensure the right to justice. But we are heading toward a place where frustration is growing.
Speaking at a discussion meeting at the National Press Club on Saturday, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The country has been destroyed in the last 15 years, and that cannot be solved in one year. Everything is decided by bureaucrats. Overnight solutions are not possible. Elected representatives must guarantee the minimum right to justice. If elections are held repeatedly, representatives remain accountable to the people.”
The BNP Secretary General further said, “The reforms being discussed, the talk of fixing the economic structure— it is unrealistic to think that all corruption can be eliminated in a single day. In a place where a peaceful process of power transfer has not been established, nothing can be achieved overnight.”
He added, “We want to establish people’s rights. But when efforts are made to reduce inequality, issues are deliberately diverted by imposing extremism. That is when we feel frustrated. Debates will exist. But we are heading toward a place where despair is increasing, and we are forced to be disheartened.”
