BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that there is an ongoing, covert conspiracy to make people forget the spirit and events of the 1971 Liberation War. He called upon all citizens of Bangladesh to unite against this conspiracy.
He made these remarks on Thursday afternoon at a greeting exchange event in the capital on the occasion of Janmashtami.
Fakhrul stated, “There is a hidden effort today to make us forget ’71. We all must unite against this.” He also expressed concern about the rise of extremism, warning, “We cannot let extremism raise its head. If we do, the soul of our Bangladesh—its very existence—will not be protected. We all must remember this.”
He urged everyone to move past the politics of division and work together for the existence, development, and progress of Bangladesh.
The event was organized by the BNP at the Engineers Institute auditorium in Ramna to honor members of the Hindu community for Janmashtami. The party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, joined virtually from London. Hindu community members welcomed him with ululations (joyful cheers) and the beating of drums, to which Rahman responded by waving.
