The Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, handed over the deed of a three-katha plot in Purbachal to Mahir Sarwar Megh, the son of slain journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi. The ceremony was held on Thursday afternoon at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
In 2004, journalist Sagar Sarwar applied for the plot and received allocation in 2005. Although the full payment was completed in 2009, the previous Awami League government did not transfer the plot to Sagar Sarwar’s family. The current owners of the plot, through inheritance, are Sagar’s mother Saleha Monir and his son Mahir Sarwar Megh.
During the event, the Chief Advisor expressed concern over the prolonged investigation into the Sagar-Runi murder case and instructed authorities to expedite the process. He stated, “Such delays in investigations create negative public perceptions and erode trust in the legal system.”
Housing and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan mentioned that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the current investigating agency, found that critical evidence had been lost due to the delays in the investigation.
Megh presented the Chief Advisor with a self-designed jersey and bag as a gift. The event was attended by Advisors Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Farida Akhter, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, as well as the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority, Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, and Meherun Runi’s brother Nawajesh Alam Roman.
