According to the latest data from the Health Emergency Operation Center of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 380 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country in the last 24 hours. As of Monday (August 18), the total number of dengue cases this year has reached 26,758, with 105 fatalities. However, no deaths were reported in the past day.
Regional breakdown shows the highest number of new cases in Dhaka South City Corporation (74), followed by Chattogram Division (70), other districts under Dhaka Division (66), Barishal (67), Dhaka North City Corporation (31), Khulna (25), Rajshahi (34), Mymensingh (7), Rangpur (4), and Sylhet (2). Currently, 1,277 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals nationwide—421 in Dhaka and 856 outside the capital.
Monthly data reveals 5,778 cases and 22 deaths in August so far. Cumulative figures for 2024 show January (1,161 cases, 10 deaths), February (374 cases, 3 deaths), April (701 cases, 7 deaths), May (1,773 cases, 3 deaths), June (5,951 cases, 19 deaths), and July (10,684 cases, 41 deaths) as the peak month. Health authorities have urged intensified public awareness and cleanliness drives to curb the outbreak.
