The Bangladesh Bank is set to introduce a redesigned 100 taka banknote featuring the country’s archaeological heritage, marking the latest addition to its new currency series. The note will enter circulation starting Tuesday (August 12) through the central bank’s Motijheel headquarters before being distributed nationwide.
Advanced Security Features:
-
Color-shifting “100” denomination (gold to green)
-
Security thread that changes from red to green
-
Tactile dots for visually impaired users
-
Microprinting and see-through registration
-
Special varnish for durability
The central bank has already released new 1,000, 500, and 20 taka notes in this series, with remaining denominations to follow gradually. Officials emphasize the notes’ counterfeit-resistant technology, including intaglio printing and rainbow-colored effects on the security strip.
Context: This currency overhaul aligns with Bangladesh’s efforts to modernize its monetary system while celebrating cultural heritage. Economic analysts note the enhanced security measures could significantly reduce counterfeit currency incidents, which currently account for 0.003% of circulating cash according to central bank estimates.
The launch precedes Bangladesh Bank’s planned demonetization of older series notes, expected to begin in early 2025. Currency collectors are particularly interested in the new 100 taka note’s unique floral motif combining lotus blossoms with traditional patterns.
