Dhaka, August 10: The government is closely monitoring the activities of the banned Awami League abroad to see if they are attempting to create instability, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
He made the remarks on Sunday (August 10) while responding to journalists’ questions at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. The briefing was organized ahead of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s upcoming official visit to Malaysia.
When asked about Awami League’s reported “party office” operations in Kolkata and other activities abroad, the Press Secretary stated: “All political activities of Awami League remain banned in Bangladesh. We are carefully monitoring their actions abroad. If they attempt to create instability from foreign soil, we are keeping strict surveillance. We will share more concrete information when available.”
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Shah Asif Rahman and Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Azad Majumder were also present at the press conference.
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will undertake an official visit to Malaysia from August 11-13 at the invitation of the Malaysian government, where bilateral discussions on various issues are expected to take place.
