Corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have become a major obstacle in sending Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia, according to migration experts. Against this backdrop, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will embark on an official visit to Malaysia on Monday at the invitation of the Malaysian government. The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed the news in a statement today.
Agenda of Bilateral Talks:
On Tuesday (August 12), the Chief Adviser will hold a meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister to discuss resolving existing issues faced by Bangladeshi workers and increasing new employment opportunities. Regional and global political matters will also be on the agenda. The visit is expected to include the signing of five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and the exchange of three diplomatic notes.
Impact of Cases and Malaysia’s Concerns:
Sources indicate that lawsuits filed in Bangladesh regarding Malaysia’s digital migration system have put pressure on the Malaysian government. While the system currently operates transparently for workers from 14 countries, the legal cases have raised questions about its credibility. Experts warn that these cases could damage Malaysia’s ranking in the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report. This, in turn, may lead to trade restrictions in Western markets, including the U.S., and complicate loan approvals from international financial institutions like the World Bank and IMF.
