Dhaka, August 10 : The government has decided to purchase 40,000 body-worn cameras (bodycams) to enhance security at polling stations during the upcoming general election. The decision was made at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus at Jamuna State Guest House on Saturday.
Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that the procurement process will be completed by October. Police personnel will receive training to operate these AI-enabled cameras. The Chief Advisor emphasized, “Ensuring complete security at all polling centers is our top priority.”
The meeting also announced plans to launch a special ‘Election App’ to increase transparency. The app will provide voters with candidate information, polling station updates, and a platform to file complaints. The government is currently in talks with three companies from Germany, China, and Thailand for the camera supply.
The caretaker government is taking multi-pronged measures to make the February election the most peaceful and transparent in Bangladesh’s history. On election day, police officers will wear these bodycams while on duty.
