  • Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) has dismissed as a rumor a news circulating on social media that gas supply in the country will be completely shut down for the next four days. However, due to urgent maintenance work at the LNG terminal, gas supply may decrease during this period. This may lead to temporary low gas pressure in some areas.

This information was given in a press release signed by Petrobangla Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Tariqul Islam Khan on Tuesday (November 3).

The notification said that emergency maintenance work is underway at one of the two LNG terminals located in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar. The regasification operations at the Summit LNG Terminal are suspended, which may temporarily affect gas supply.

According to Petrobangla, in this situation, the daily gas supply in the country could drop from 2,570 million cubic feet to 2,250 million cubic feet. That is, the supply could decrease by 320 million cubic feet. This situation could persist for the next four days due to maintenance work.

    Petrobangla concerned about spreading rumors

The press release further states that a group is deliberately spreading rumors on social media by creating photo cards of some media outlets that gas supply will be suspended in the country for the next four days. Through this, an attempt is being made to create panic in the public mind, which has come to the notice of Petrobangla.

The company has clarified that gas supply in the country is not being completely stopped; it may only be temporarily reduced. In this situation, Petrobangla has requested the public not to pay attention to misleading information spread on social media and not to be panicked by rumors.
