A mother named Parul Begum was killed tragically stabbed by her drug-addicted son in the Palashbari area of Belgacha union in Kurigram Sadar uSpazila.
Her husband Sardar Ali was critically injured in the incident and has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The accused son, Muttakin Alam Shovon, was arrested.
The incident occurred at their home around 6:30 AM on Wednesday (October 14).
According to local residents and police sources, Muttakin Alam Shovon had previously been placed in a rehabilitation center in Bogura due to his drug addiction. After spending nearly two years there, his family brought him home. However, he relapsed into drug addiction again.
Against this backdrop representatives from the rehabilitation center arrived at the house last night to take Shovon back. Realizing the situation, Shovon began stabbing his mother inside the house. Consequently, her mother was killed on the spot and the killer son fled away after the incident. Following the incident, locals rescued the critically injured Sardar Ali and admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment there.
Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station said that the accused son was detained following a police operation. The body of the deceased woman has been recovered and sent to the morgue at Kurigram General Hospital.
