Police have arrested a man named Sumon in connection with the murder of seventh grade student Jannatul Tajmin (15) who was rescued from a paddy field in Lalmai, Comilla. He was arrested from Chittagong city on Friday (October 9) morning. According to the police, the arrested Sumon is the driver of the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw that was carrying the student.
Comilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Anisuzzaman confirmed the arrest on Friday afternoon. He said that based on a secret tip-off, multiple police teams conducted a drive and arrested Sumon. Later, the police left for Comilla with him.
The Superintendent of Police also said that details will be announced through a press conference after Sumon is taken to Comilla. However, he did not give a specific time for the press conference.
Schoolgirl’s body found in paddy field
Earlier on Thursday (October 8) morning, police recovered the body of Jannatul Tajmin from a paddy field in Jagatpur village of Lalmai upazila of Comilla.
The deceased, Jannatul, was the daughter of Abdul Alim of Chatiantola village in Jessore Sadar upazila. She was a seventh-grade student at Farida Vidyayan School in Comilla city.
Jannatul’s father, Abdul Alim, works for the Renata Pharmaceutical Company in the Comilla region. He and his family lived in a rented house in the Race Course area of Comilla city.
Investigation into the case filed by the father
In this incident, Jannatul’s father Abdul Alim filed a murder case with Lalmai Police Station, accusing unknown persons.
Police said that Sumon was arrested as part of the investigation into the case based on a tip-off. However, details about the motive for the murder, his involvement in the incident, and whether anyone else was involved have not yet been released.
Police hope to obtain more information about the murder through investigation of the case and further interrogation.
