Clashes, vandalism and arson have occurred in the capital’s Mirpur-10 area over a sidewalk demolition drive. The incident took place on Wednesday (September 30) at around 10:30 am on the sidewalk in front of Hope Market.
Mirpur Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Naser Rikabder confirmed the matter to the media.
It is learnt that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit during the sidewalk clearance operation. Later, angry hawkers and sidewalk traders set fire to three garbage trucks of the City Corporation.
A police vehicle and a bus were also vandalized during the incident. Tension and tension prevailed in the entire area after the incident.
Additional police are being deployed at the scene to control the situation. Police members are on alert to maintain law and order.
Rakib Hossain, duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room, said three units of the Fire Service have reached the scene to control the fire in Mirpur.
