Leader of the Opposition and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “By Allah, I will give life, but I will not let the achievements of ‘24’ be lost.” He alleged that as in the past, efforts are being made to destroy the achievements of the 2024 mass uprising.
He was speaking at a discussion on the occasion of the Martyrs’ Day at the IDB auditorium in the capital’s Kakrail on Thursday (July 16th). The dead were remembered at the July attack.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the present parliament and the government are the result of the 2024 mass uprising. “If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have been a member of the opposition today, I wouldn’t have been a member of parliament. Similarly, Tarique Rahman could not be the prime minister.” He said the contribution of the movements and struggles of the past is not being denied, but it is also unacceptable to undermining the role of 2024.
Referring to state reforms, Jamaat-e-Islami said one of the goals of the mass uprising was to prevent the repetition of fascism and establish a new political culture. Responding to criticism over the referendum, he said the people already knew four questions and they were widely discussed in the media. Denying the decision of the people is to question the wisdom of the nation.
He also accused many of those who voted in favour of the referendum before the election. He said that if the people are ignored, the people will ultimately judge it.
He also questioned the formation of the Constitutional Amendment Committee. Shafiqur Rahman He said there is no such committee in the constitution and through such initiatives, efforts are being made to hide the spirit of mass uprisings and referendums. That’s why his party has walked out of Parliament.
“We don’t think of taking shelter on Indian soil. This country is our country, and our shelter is the heart of eighteen crore people of Bangladesh.”
