The death toll from the floods caused by heavy rains, hill surges and hillslides in different parts of the country have reached 54. Thirty-nine others were injured.
According to the latest update of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, 59 upazilas, thirty-three unions and twelve municipalities of seven districts have been affected by the floods. The number of families and the total number of affected people stood at 6 lakh 9 thousand 411 people.
The highest number of deaths was in Cox’s Bazar, where 31 people died. Besides, 13 people were killed in Chittagong, six in Bandarban, three in Rangamati and one in Moulvibazar. The injured include 24 people from Cox’s Bazar, 12 from Chittagong, two from Bandarban and one from Khagrachhari.
The government has set up hundreds of shelters to ensure the safety of the affected people. Thirty-eight thousand people have taken shelter in these centres. The administration is continuing to work to help rescue, relief distribution and the victims.
