Chittagong Port has reached new milestones in container, cargo and ship handling in the fiscal year 2025-26.
According to the port authority, a total of 35 lakh 841 TEUs (TEUs) containers were handled during this time. In the previous financial year, the number was 32 lakh 96 thousand 67 TEUs. As a result, the increase of 6.76 percent in container handling has been achieved.
At the same time, 13 crores 77 lakh tonnes of open (bulk) cargo has been transported through the port. In the previous financial year, the amount was 13 crores 7 lakhs 24 thousand 783 tons. This has increased by 5.36 per cent in cargo handling.
There has also been positive progress in shipping. In the 2025-26 financial year, 4 thousand 324 ships were handled at the Chittagong port, which is 6.06 percent higher than the previous fiscal year.
In addition, the average position of the container ship has decreased to 2.38 days. As a result, the port activities have been made more efficient and efficient.
The importance of Chittagong Port in the country
According to the port authority, about ninety-two percent of Bangladesh’s total import-export products are transported through Chittagong port. Ninety-eight percent of the country’s container transport is also completed through this port. As a result, the role of Chittagong port in the country’s economy and foreign trade is very important.

Chittagong Port spokesperson and chief personal officer Md. Nasir Uddin said new records have been achieved in three cases of cargo, container and ship handling in the recently concluded financial year. According to him, Chittagong port has achieved a growth of 5.36 per cent in cargo handling, 6.76 per cent in container handling and 6.06 per cent in vessel handling.
