Actor Zaher Alvi has been arrested in a case filed for abetting his wife Afra Ivnat Ikra’s suicide. The court ordered that Niyamat Ullah Bhuiyan) be sent to jail.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin on Thursday rejected his bail plea.
According to court sources, Zaher Alvi surrendered in the afternoon and filed a bail application through lawyers. At the end of the hearing, the court rejected the petition and sent him to jail.
At the hearing, the accused’s lawyers claimed that there were no specific allegations against Zaher Alvi in the case and he was not involved in the incident. According to them, he has been accused in a harassed case due to personal disputes and vengeance over love marriage. He was also in Nepal on the occasion of the shooting of the drama at the time of filing the case.
On the other hand, the plaintiff appealed to the court against the bail. They alleged that Afra Ivnat Ikra was forced to commit suicide due to long-standing family feuds and mental abuse.
According to the case documents, Ikra was found unconscious from his house in Mirpur DOHS area of the capital on February 28. Later, he was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. On the same night, Ikra’s father Kabir Hayat Khan filed a case.
Zaher Alvi and Afra Ivnat Ikra got married in 2010. They have a son. Earlier, Zaher Alvi’s mother Nasrin Sultana Shiuli surrendered in the same case on June 4th.
The case is currently pending and the next legal process will continue as per the directions of the court.
