As the measles outbreak continues across the country, four more children have died of measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from measles and its symptoms to 652 since March 15 this year.
A total of four children have died in the last 24 hours, one each in Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions, according to the regular report of the Directorate General of Health Services released on Sunday (June 14). Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have taken initiatives to strengthen necessary healthcare services in the affected areas.
According to the report, 75 new cases of measles have been identified in the past 12 hours. At the same time, 1,052 more people have shown symptoms of measles. As a result, a total of 10,323 cases of measles have been confirmed in the country from March 15 to June 14, and 85,951 people have been identified with measles symptoms.
According to the Department of Health, 70,579 patients have been admitted to hospitals with measles or its symptoms since the beginning of the current outbreak. Of these, 66,841 have recovered and returned home after treatment.
Experts say that since measles is a highly contagious disease, it is important to ensure that children are vaccinated and seek prompt treatment if symptoms appear. The Health Department is continuing surveillance and preventive activities in various regions to control the number of infected people and mortality rates.
