Bangladesh have won a historic victory against Australia in one-day cricket after a long 21-year wait. After almost four years, the Tigers beat Australia by 86 runs in a superb all-round performance by Mosaddek Hossain Beach.
Bangladesh lost the toss and elected to bat in the first ODI of the series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Mosaddek Hossain scored the highest unbeaten 86 for the team. Nazmul Hossain Shanto 67 and Tanjid Hasan Tamim scored 54 runs and made a significant contribution to the team’s big collection.
Australia came under pressure from the start to chase down the target of 285 runs. After losing wickets at regular intervals, the team lost nine wickets in 42.2 overs and collected 191 runs. The game was stopped due to rain.
Bangladesh was declared the winner of 86 runs in the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system as the game was not possible to be played on the field later.
With this victory, Bangladesh’s winning rate against Australia in one-day cricket stood at two. The only win was earlier in the NatWest Series 2005 in England.
After the 2015 World Cup, Bangladesh had a remarkable success against almost all the biggest opponents in the ODIs, but Australia was elusive. At the end of the day, the Tigers won a memorable victory.
