The foreign minister said there is a high potential to expedite the expansion of bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and Turkey.

He said the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) were discussed to take the economic ties between the two countries to new heights.
He said this after a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Dhaka on Friday.
The foreign minister said the possibility of signing a free trade agreement between Bangladesh and Turkey was discussed during the meeting. He also discussed strengthening trade relations between the two countries through preferential trade agreements.
He said the current relations between Bangladesh and Turkey are at a very positive level. The Turkish foreign minister’s visit is an important milestone for the relations between the two countries, which will play an important role in deepening cooperation and taking strategic partnerships to new heights.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman said Bangladesh’s political stability, business-friendly environment and the growing domestic market have created great opportunities for Turkish investors. He called for further expansion of partnership with Turkish investment campaigns and cooperation agencies.
The meeting also discussed education, culture, tourism, trade, investment and business connectivity. The foreign minister said about three thousand Bangladeshi nationals are currently living in Turkey. The Turkish government has been asked to provide more scholarships to enhance the opportunities for higher education for them.
He hoped that in the future, economic, cultural and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries would be expanded and new investment and commercial initiatives would be implemented.
