Trump reviews Iran’s 14-point peace proposal, uncertainty over deal

International Desk »

  • US President Donald Trump is set to review a new 14-point peace proposal sent by Iran, but he has expressed doubts about the proposal’s acceptability from the outset.

In a post on his social media account, Truth Social, Trump said he would review Iran’s plan soon. At the same time, he criticized Iran’s past actions and indicated that the proposal was unlikely to be accepted.

Earlier, Iranian semi-official media reported that Tehran had submitted a 14-point peace plan to mediators aimed at permanently ending the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that with this proposal, it is now the turn of the United States to make a decision.

According to the report, the proposal emphasizes a permanent solution rather than a temporary ceasefire. In this diplomatic process, which is being mediated by Pakistan, Iran has presented a new plan in response to the nine-point proposal previously made by the United States.

Iran’s proposal includes several important conditions, including a guarantee not to carry out any future military aggression, the withdrawal of US troops from areas bordering Iran, the lifting of the naval blockade and all sanctions, the return of Iranian assets seized abroad, and a permanent end to the conflict in various theaters, including Lebanon.

In addition, while the United States proposed a two-month ceasefire, Iran has set a deadline of 30 days for a solution.

However, analysts believe that it will be difficult to reach a quick agreement due to Trump’s tough stance and mutual distrust, raising fears that the ongoing tensions in the Middle East will continue to escalate.

It is worth noting that the first round of talks between Iran and the United States was held in Islamabad on April 11 under the mediation of Pakistan, but it ended without any results.
